Directed mainly to patients with grade I and II, although they apply in some cases of grade III and IV. Patients can be managed on an outpatient basis, that is, without the need for hospital admission. Its objective is to remove or destroy the hemorrhoids, the fibrosis secondary to the healing process helps to give firmness to the tissues, preventing a new prolapse. Its complications are rare and minimal.
It is a good technique for the treatment of bleeding grade I-II internal hemorrhoids but above all with a component of mucosal prolapse. It consists of the application of an elastic rubber band over the hemorrhoidal bundle that we want to treat in order to generate necrosis by strangulation. It cuts off the blood flow in the treated area, then the hemorrhoid “dries up” and falls off after about 3-4 days. The fibrosis that is generated causes the rectal mucosa to remain fixed, preventing its sliding-prolapse to the outside.
Infrared photocoagulation, also called coagulation therapy, is a common medical procedure to treat small to medium-sized hemorrhoids.
During this procedure, an infrared light device is used to cause a clot in the vein. This clot will cut off the blood supply to the hemorrhoid. The hemorrhoid will die and a scar will form at the site of the hemorrhoid that will hold the nearby veins in place so they do not protrude into the anal canal.
The laser acts very selectively on the lesion, minimally damaging the adjacent tissues. That's why it has fewer side effects due to unnecessary destruction of healthy tissue and inflammation.
By producing minimal tissue damage, pain is drastically reduced and even completely disappears in the postoperative period.
Its minimal size prevents extensive manipulations on the surrounding tissues, making it possible to address areas that are difficult to access for conventional surgery.
Sclerotherapy is a hemorrhoid treatment used to treat small internal hemorrhoids. The procedure consists of injecting a substance that hardens the base of the internal hemorrhoids to cut off its circulation. This substance can be the phenol from almond oil or saline solutions. What the sclerosing substance causes is a low-impact inflammatory reaction in the veins and mucosal tissues. It collapses the walls of the veins, causing the internal hemorrhoid to dry up.
In the case of hemorrhoids, this technique kills the hemorrhoidal tissue by means of cold and in a comfortable way for the patient. For this, nitrous oxide is used at low pressure until temperatures of up to 80 degrees below zero are reached. With this low temperature it is possible to leave the hemorrhoids without blood supply and destroy them without the need to use or anesthesia during the intervention.
The use of this therapy will be ambulatory and does not require any special preparation. Sometimes it is done in two one-minute sessions, leaving a week between one session and the other.
Recovery is very fast and the patient can return to his normal life without even taking any rest. Experts ensure that technical complications are rare and that there are no contraindications for it.
